Man with $1M bill busted at bank

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_7579361

Summary:

A man walked into a bank and tried to open an account with a million dollar bill.

Comments:

FIRST off, the million dollar bill doesn't exist and really, seriously how stupid do you have to be! Wouldn't you think that a bank teller would know if the $1 million dollar bill was real or fake!

2 hurt in Greeley fire blamed on space heater

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7505970

Summary:

A fire broke out in a apartment and ruined a unit and injured two people.

My Comments:

This is really scary to hear because I have one at my house and one at my job. I really freak out about this too because one time I plugged a space heater in and a flame came out. So I threw that one away and bought a new one.

Coroner: Neveah was abused

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7404877

Summary:

A three-year old girl was reported kidnapped on Sept. 21. She was then found dead on Sept. 24. The autopsy report says she was most likely abusived for long period of time.

My Comments:

I work at a daycare, so obviously I love children. Yeah, it gets hard at times, but that is NO reason to ever hurt a child! They don't know that they are doing anything wrong. They are innocent until you teach them otherwise. I can't believe anyone could ever lay their hand on a child! NO MATTER WHAT THEY DID! People like that should be sent to jail! ALL OF THEM!

Denver Man Charged in Chihuahua's Death

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7405538

Summary:

A man was mad at a family members chihuahua and so he beat it to death with a shovel and threw it in the trash bin.

My Comments:

I AM A SERIOUS ANIMAL LOVER! This article made me VERY upset. How can you be that cruel to an animal. Especially if the animal is so small! This hurts me to read, because I have a little chihuahua of my own. I love the thing to death! If fact I acutally have 10 dogs altogether right now because one of my dogs had SIX puppies on Sunday morning! I don't understand hwo you could hurt something just because you got mad at it.

Parker teen pleads guilty to hiding baby's death

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7289974

Summary:

This young girl was pregnant, but kept the prenancy and the birth a secret from her family and friends. One day she was driving and gave birth to the baby. They baby was a still born, so it had no chance of living, but still she went back to her dorm room and hid it.

My comments:

Okay! Even if you don't want the baby, doesn't mean you need to keep it a secret from your family and friends. If they are really your friends and family, they will help you through it and not let you go through it alone. I understand the baby was a still born but still that's extremely sad. She shouldn't have had the baby and hid it either! She should have gone to the hospital and had it taken care of the right way. In all honesty, if she didn't want the baby she shouldn't be having sex!

Police Chase Suspects Onto School Lawn

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7214207

Summary:

A BIG fight broke out about 35 teenagers were involved. The fight started over some of the teenagers throwing things at a car. The driver of the car was hit with a beer bottle. Then once the police showed up, everyone scattered and the police chased down 4 of them infront of a middle school. The middle school was suppose to be informed of it, but the police didn't have time to let them know. So now the police are in trouble because of that.

My Comments:

Yes, they should have let the school now that they were there and why they were there, but really the didn't even have time to react. If they were going to catch the suspects then they couldn't stop for a minute and call the middle school and say, "Hey we are outside the middle school..blah blah blah."

No I am sorry but they didn't have time to do that. It was either chase them down and get them caught or stop and inform the school. I would have choose chase them down also.

Students Rally For Cheaper Books

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7203905

Summary:

Students got to together today and signed a petition to lower costs of college books.

My Comment:

This is the PERFECT article for me because I have been affected with this personally. College books are getting WAY too expensive! Maybe the people that sale the boosk think that college students are made of money, but sorry to tell you WE'RE NOT! I still live at home, so I don't have to pay for room and board, but still it is expensive for me! So just think of what people that have to pay room and board, pay for the other bills (such as car payments, cell phones, insurance...etc) it just get's ridiculous. I agree completely with these students and I hope that they get those costs lowered for the following years.

Victoms of Wis. Shooting Were Young

http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_7117723

Summary:

An off-duty cop went on a shooting spree. I know for sure he killed two people one 14 and one 20. It doesn't say why or what set him off.

My Comments:

This article touched me because you never know when something like this could happen. This honestly could have been me. One of the victims was even younger than me. How sad is that?

Escaped Prisoner Caught After 32 Years

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_7004012

Summary:
A man who was convicted of a second-degree murder conviction. Escaped 32 years ago and is just now being caught. His real name was Robert Charles Johnson and he took on the name Robert Fargo. He had shot a man three times, one in the chest and twice in the head, after the man offered him a ride and supposedly made homosexual passes at Johnson.

My Comments:
It is really scary that a convicted murder has been free for 32 years. What's even more scary is that he killed a man just because of a homosexual pass. I am not bothered what so ever by homosexuals and I believe that it is wrong that Johnson got that mad that he had to kill the guy.

Shots fired at Cerry Creek H.S.

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_6928956

Summary:

Shots were fired at the highschool at early morning hours, but according to them no threats were made.

My comments:

I would still be worried if I were the administration. Just because there wasn't any threats doesn't mean they will not come back.

Police Chase

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_6882261

In this article, I read about a high speed chase. It ended when the driver drove our a spike strip and a police officer collided with him to stop him.

My Comments:

If you don't have any reason to drive, or shouldn't be driving in the first place, THEN DON'T DRIVE! Why? Because things like this end up happening. The passenger in the vehicle was obviously in the wrong place, at the wrong time. I hope this driver doesn't get to drive for a VERY long time.

She was 14, He was 34

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_6847554

In this article, I read about a girl who had married a 34 year old in common law marriage. They had a son together and everything. But then state lawmakers found out and changed it so they could charge him. He ended up going to prison and was named a sex offender.

My Comments:

Well, I am sorry, but you shouldn't be marrying children that could be your children! I think that this is disturbing, but they shouldn't have charged him with all that stuff. Yes it was wrong and it shouldn't have been allowed in the first place. But this man lost the first couple of years of his son's life because of it. It was wrong for him to marry a 14-year-old girl, but it was wrong for the lawmakers to charge him with stuff that he did not intend for it to be like.

Denver Mother Charged After Child Run Over

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_6830112

Some people. First of all, NOBODY should be on the hood of car. Why? Because something stupid like this could happen. Her excuse probably was, oh we were just messing around, but like your mother always told you, don't do that or someone could get hurt. Well her mother probably never told her that. This could be all accident, but it happened because she didn't think before she did it.

UK girl's parents considered suspects

http://www.denverpost.com/ci_6824806

It always seems that the parents always become the suspects. Which in some cases could be the obvious way to go with it. But what were they thinking about going to a restraunt and having NO ONE with their kids while they were sleeping. I can't believe they would even think about leaving them alone.

New Orleans — As bells rang out the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's landfall in New Orleans, residents paused from their grim rebuilding effort today to remember the dead and all their neighbors who are still unable to return.
Katrina was a powerful Category 3 hurricane when it hit the Gulf Coast the morning of Aug. 29, 2005, broke through levees in New Orleans and flooded 80 percent of the city.
By the time the last of the water dried up weeks later, more than 1,600 people across Louisiana and Mississippi were dead, and a shocked nation was looking at miles of wrecked homes, mud and debris from the worst natural disaster in its history.
"We ring the bells for a city that is in recovery, that is struggling,

Marchers join hands as they walk down the bridge over the Industrial Canal on the second anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2007. (AP Alex Brandon)that is performing miracles on a daily basis," New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said at a groundbreaking ceremony for a memorial that will be the final resting place for more than two dozen still unidentified victims.
After he spoke, a large bell tolled a dozen times and a crowd rang hand-held bells for more than a minute to remember the victims.
"The saddest thing I've seen here is that there are 30 human beings who will be buried here one day that nobody ever called about," said David Kopra, a volunteer from Olympia, Wash., holding back tears. "It says something to my heart. This city needs so much care." President Bush led a moment of silence at a recovering school in the Lower 9th Ward — a predominantly black, low income area that was all but obliterated by the storm.
"Better days are ahead," Bush said as he sought to assure residents that his administration had not forgotten the region and would make good on the promises of aid.
"We're still paying attention. We understand," the president said.
Protesters, remembering the government's slow response in the storm's immediate aftermath, planned to march from the Lower 9th Ward to Congo Square to spread their message that the government has also failed to help people return.
"People are angry and they want to send a message to politicians that they want them to do more and do it faster," said the Rev. Marshall Truehill, a Baptist pastor and community activist. "Nobody's going to be partying." The anniversary was a reminder of the desperation that filled New Orleans' flooding neighborhoods in the days after Katrina hit.
Images of dead bodies, people in the flood zones calling from their roofs and waiting days for help, and of the thousands of evacuees packed into the grimy and damaged Superdome, are still fresh in many minds.
Politicians have used the date to pitch policy. Scholars and activists have released a steady stream of reports on the state of recovery.
An international people's tribunal, spearheaded by legal activists trying to build a case under international law accusing the United States of human rights abuses during and after Katrina, has also been convened to take testimony from victims.
In Gulfport, Miss., Gov. Haley Barbour urged people to see the positive. About 13,000 of his state's families are still living in FEMA trailers, but that's down from a peak of 48,000, and he expects they could all be out of the temporary housing in a year.
Biloxi, Miss., Mayor A.J. Holloway said he was grateful for how far his city had come.
"God has been good to Biloxi and its people of the Mississippi Gulf Coast," Holloway said. "We have a new outlook on life and a new appreciation for what's really important in life. It's not your car or your clothes or your possessions. It's being alive and knowing the importance of family and friends and knowing that we all have a higher power." In New Orleans, a candlelight vigil was planned in Jackson Square at dusk today, right around the time the French Quarter last year started getting tipsy with street parties and residents choosing to remember the anniversary in their own unique way.

My comments:

This really touches me because this was a diaster that touched everyone in this country. It touched me and I live in Nebraska. So many people had their homes destroyed and lost loved ones. I remember that year my school had a fundraiser during basketball. It was Homer vs. South Sioux City Girls. If I would have been there and heard the bells for myself...I don't know what I would have done.
